Yoga means 'to unite', 'to join' or 'to be whole'. Yoga is thought to have originated in India many thousands of years ago, it is an ancient philosophical discipline that harmonizes the mind, body and spirit. In the western world today, yoga is seen as a mainstream form of exercise and a means of relieving stress caused by the demands of our modern day lifestyles. Made popular by pop stars such as the Beatles, Sting and Madonna, yoga has the ability to integrate and accommodate all experiences and cultures and is able to evolve whilst retaining its essence. This means anyone can practise yoga!!! no matter the age, level of health and fitness, religion or whether you can touch your toes or stand on your head. Yoga is for everyone. The benefits of practising yoga are endless. Physically it tones, strengthens, aids balance and enhances vitality and overall well-being. For the mind it improves concentration and memory, it can sharpen the intellect or release creativity and it steadies the emotions and gives mental serenity. On a deeper level the practice of yoga leads to self awareness and liberation.
I started practising yoga when I was a teenager, although I attended more dance classes than yoga classes at that time but found Yoga to be a great stress release.
As a younger woman I worked as a model, dancer and in the Film Industry as an extra and Stand- in to the stars !
I found my journey back to Yoga in 1996 after suffering with grief for many years after my Mum died in 1981 and found a great teacher quite close to home, Victoria Jane Adamson, who really inspired me to practise regularly and to eventually become a yoga teacher myself.
I trained for the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Diploma in 2002 , which was a brilliant stepping stone for me to change my direction in life and teach on a regular basis and still keep connections with the Film and TV industry .
The Sivananda yoga training is a deeply spiritual experience and after spending one month in an ashram the feeling stays deep inside forever.
I enhance my training continuously by attending workshops, seminars and master classes with a variety of very fine teachers.
I have a wonderful husband and son and thank my lucky stars for them. I cherish my dear family and friends with all my heart.
Many people come to yoga for different reasons and are able to transform any negativity they may have into a positive and wonderful journey.
Om shanti....
